Production time

I hope everyone has had a good Christmas break and that you are all nice and refreshed.
There is a lot of work to do but with application you will meet the deadlines.
Between now and June we will prepare for the exam alongside completing your productions and evaluations. You need to submit the final draft of your research investigations on Tuesday January 14th


Here is a breakdown of the two units

MS3 - 25% Media Investigation & Production Three components: 

A written investigation into media texts based on one or more of the key media concepts – genre, narrative and/or representation (45); 

A media production (45); 3-4 pieces of print based work. Posters, DVD covers, CD covers, Magazine covers, Magazine 2 page spreads or a combination.

and an evaluation of how the production is informed by the investigative research (10). 
(Group work permitted for audio-visual productions only.) 


MS4 - 25% External Assessment: 2½ hour Written Paper 

Media – Text, Industry and Audience Three questions (30 marks per question). 

Section A: one question from a choice of two. 

Section B: two questions from a choice of four. 

Candidates must answer each question on a different media industry. 


First off, it's important that we reach a clear, common understanding of the demands of the project ahead.

  The requirements of the production project:

Using research findings as a basis for a production piece.
Creating an original music video or film section for a target audience.
Adhering to, or deliberately challenging established codes and conventions.
Demonstrating creativity and technical skills.
Working as a group but making strong individual contribution.
Watching and analysing related texts.

Task 1: Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the following A2 media studies video examples.








Task 2: Individually pitch your ideas to the class and take note of feedback.

Music video
Consider:
Song choice. Strengths and weaknesses.
Your concept; type of video.
Analysis of lyrics.
Mise en scene.
Casting.
Pace of video. Editing.
Framing.
Lighting.

Film Sequence
Consider:
Synopsis of the whole film.
Narrative.
Setting.
Characters.
Mise en scene.
Dialogue.
Sound; Foley, music.
Editing.
Framing.
Lighting.
